After decades of efforts, the dream of traveling on supersonic planes is about to come true.
An experimental plane from the American company Boom Supersonic has succeeded in breaking the sound barrier for the first time.
The XB1 broke the sound barrier during a test flight in the Mojave Desert in the US state of California.
During this flight, the plane went to an altitude of more than 10 km above the ground and then traveled at a speed of 1358 km per hour.
Work on the plane called XB1 has been ongoing since 2014 and the company that developed it wants to introduce the first commercial supersonic plane after more than 2 decades.
So far, 2 supersonic planes were developed around the world decades ago, one was the Soviet Tupolev Tu-144 and the other was the British / French Concorde, which last flew in October 2003.
Since then, work has been underway to develop supersonic aircraft, but they are not yet commercially available.
In the future, the aircraft developed by Boom Supersonic will be able to travel from London to New York in just 3 and a half hours, traveling at speeds of more than 1,300 miles per hour.
The XB1 is made of carbon fiber, while augmented reality technology will also be used for flight.
The aircraft has a long nose in front, in which 2 cameras are installed that help with flight paths and other tasks.
This aircraft is capable of flying on 100 percent environmentally friendly fuel, but this fuel is not yet produced in large quantities.
The company has set a target for commercial flights by the end of this decade.
