All students must have a properly maintained instrument. Potential means of obtaining an instrument:
Rent or purchase one from a licensed musical instrument dealer (Taylor's Music in West Chester is recommended).
Borrow an instrument from a friend or family member, or use one already owned. In this case, instruments must be cleaned and serviced by a qualified music repair technician prior to the student's first lesson. (For string instruments, it is critical the instrument is the correct size for your child, please consult Mrs. O'Leary for more information).
It is NOT recommend that families purchase instruments from online auction-style websites or from department stores. These instruments are frequently inferior in quality and make it much more difficult for a student to successfully learn to play a musical instrument.
UKULELES should be real instruments, not toys. Some examples of brands that are great for beginners: Kala, Makala, Ohana, Luna, Pono, Cordoba. Price is a good indication -- a uke that is less than $40.00 is most likely more a toy than an instrument.
If you are not renting or purchasing from a music store, please contact Mrs. O'Leary prior to purchasing an instrument to ensure that the instrument is suitable for your child's musical studies .
