4th Grade Band meets on Wednesdays and 5th Grade Band has class on Thursdays. Band instruments offered are: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn and percussion.

Band students receive one 30-minute pull out group lesson per week and rehearse with the full band during recess once a week. The 4th graders have an "Informance" in January (an informational performance!) and will also perform in the Spring with the 5th graders. The 5th grade band performs at the Christmas concert in December and the Spring Concert in May.

The Violin students receive one 30-minute pull out group lesson per week and will rehearse with other violins during recess a few times a month. The 4th graders will perform at an "Informance" in January (an informational performance!) and with the 5th graders in the Spring. The UKULELE MUSIC MINISTRY, started at SJS in 2017, is open to grades 4-8. Lessons will be on different days and a schedule will be distributed after enrollment.

Students will learn to play melodies and strum (and sing!) on the ukulele. We will plan to walk to St. Martha's (next door to school) and delight the residents with a sing-along featuring familiar songs. Since there are many groups of ukulele students, each student would plan to go 1-2 times per year. Students will receive one 30-minute group lesson each week. The lesson will be on the same day each week, but it may not be on the same day as the student's other lesson (if he/she is in band or violin.) Students may choose to do only the Music Ministry or can add it to enrollment in band or orchestra. A discount is given to students who enroll in both programs.

JAZZ BAND is a group that meets before school on Tuesdays, from 7:45-8:20am. An audition is required to be admitted to Jazz Band as well as a tuition fee. If a student participated in Jazz Band last year he/she need not audition again. Instruments open for for audition are: flute, clarinet, alto/tenor/bari sax, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, drum set, piano, guitar and bass. AUDITIONS for Jazz Band will be TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 FROM 7:45-8:20am. Audition materials will be available the week of September 9th. Regular rehearsals will start on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24th FROM 7:45-8:20am.
