Inclusive learning design involves approaching learning with the intention of creating an educational experience and environment that emphasizes accessibility, engagement and representation for all learners. Regardless of skillset, background, or preferred learning style, inclusive learning must be a student-centered approach that is centered around removing as many barriers as possible and promoting equitable learning opportunities for every participant.
Some potential barriers to learners are if they do not have access to a computer or mobile device. Only one of our learning activities (online workshop) requires a computer while the other one (sleep diary) has the option of keeping track of their progress on a physical journal using pen and paper. Our online workshops are asynchronous so the learner is able to watch them at their own time and pace, such as if they go to the public library once a week to watch the online workshop.
Online Learning
Learners will be using the resources provided on Google site(such as youtube videos, online articles, online quizzes, books, etc) to learn about insomnia and manage the negative impact that may impose on their life.
Professional Workshop
Both in-person and online workshops will be held with guest speakers who have experienced insomnia and healthcare worker(e.g. physicians, researchers) to share information on insomnia.
Personal Management:
Learners are encouraged to download a sleep diary application to track their sleeping conditions. Learners will be able to reflect upon what they have recorded and develop a better understanding of themselves.
