Weis Markets

Founded in 1912, Weis Markets operates 204 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia and West Virginia. It operates 139 in-store pharmacies and employs more than 23,000 associates in its stores, distribution center, store support center and manufacturing facilities where it processes its own milk and makes more than 60 flavors of Weis Quality ice cream.

Jonathan Weis is Weis Markets’ Chairman, President and CEO while Kurt Schertle is the Company’s Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Weis Markets is a locally focused company. In 2017, it purchased more than 26 million pounds of local produce from farmers in the states where it operates. In addition, it processes its Weis Quality milk, which comes from dairy farms in Pennsylvania.

Weis Markets and its associates are committed to being good neighbors. Each year, it supports local food banks and pantries through its Fight Hunger program which generates hundreds of thousands of meals for people in need. It also donates to community-based health care organizations, including clinic programs benefiting women’s health care, mammography screening and pediatric programs.

Weis Markets’ sustainability program is a key component of its good neighbor policy. Since 2009, the Company has reduced its overall carbon footprint by 20.4%. In 2017, it recycled 40,000 tons of waste. This program has also resulted in improved efficiencies, which helped the Company save $4 million in landfill fees in 2017.
