Graduate Studies
The Inselberg Biodiversity Lab (IBL) welcomes prospective graduate students interested in ecology, evolution, conservation biology, biodiversity informatics and tropical biodiversity research.
Dr. Luiza de Paula has supervised and co-supervised undergraduate, master's and doctoral students across multiple institutions and graduate programs in Brazil and Germany. Her research is highly interdisciplinary, integrating field ecology, biodiversity data, systematics, biogeography, conservation science and computational approaches to address contemporary challenges in biodiversity research and conservation.
Dr. de Paula currently serves as an accredited advisor in the Graduate Program in Bioinformatics at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), where she is eligible to supervise both MSc and PhD students.
She has also co-supervised students in the following graduate programs through collaborative research projects and co-advising arrangements:
Graduate Program in Plant Biology, Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG)
Graduate Program in Systematics and Evolution, Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN)
Graduate Program in Botany, National School of Tropical Botany, Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute (JBRJ)
General and Special Botany, University of Rostock, Germany
In addition to her activities in graduate education, Dr. de Paula holds several academic appointments at UFMG.
She serves as a Collaborating Professor in the Department of Genetics, Ecology and Evolution and is affiliated as a Visiting Researcher with:
The Molecular and Computational Fungal Biology Laboratory (LBMCF), coordinated by Prof. Dr. Aristóteles Góes-Neto.
The Laboratory of Botany, Ecology and Evolution (LaBotEvo), coordinated by Prof. Dr. Fernanda Antunes Carvalho.
These affiliations provide students with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations spanning ecology, evolution, conservation, bioinformatics, molecular biology and biodiversity sciences.
Students interested in joining the lab are encouraged to contact Dr. de Paula to discuss potential research opportunities, funding possibilities and graduate projects aligned with the laboratory's research themes.
