Seated Medicine Ball Throw (Manske & Reiman, 2013) (Borms, Maenhout, & Cools, 2016)
Purpose: Evaluating upper extremity strength of the shoulder rotator cuff muscles, the elbow flexor and extensor muscles.
Start: Sit on the floor with the back, shoulders and head against a wall. Knees can be bent or straight. Hold an 8-pound ball at chest height.
Movement: Subjects held the ball with both hands, brought their hands to the center of the chest and threw the ball as far as possible while keeping the head and back in contact with the wall, forearms parallel to the ground. The distance was measured from the chest to the point of landing.
Criteria/Scoring:
Must keep head and shoulder in contact with the wall.
3 points > 130 inches 2 points > 100 inches 1 point > 70 inches
