Overhead deep squat (Kivlan & Robroy, August 2012) (Frohm, Heijne, Kowalski, Svensson, & Myklebust, Nov 2010)
Purpose: This test will assess primarily LE mobility and strength of the hip, knee and ankle and secondarily the mobility and stability available in the thoracic spine and shoulder girdle.
Start: Parallel feet shoulder width apart with 90 degrees bend of the elbows hold a dowel or light post overhead.
Movement: Straighten the arms over the head with elbows extended. Upper body should be kept in a vertical position while doing a slow squat down to a position where femur is below horizontal (>90 degrees). A modification to this test is to place a 2-inch board under the heels to decrease difficulty.
Criteria/Scoring:
3 points: All criteria must be fulfilled with feet on the floor.
2points: All criteria must be fulfilled but feet can rest on a 2-inch board.
1 point: All criteria must be fulfilled with feet on a 2-inch board and arms reaching forward rather than overhead.
