Textbooks and Additional Reading

Purchasing Textbook(s)

Required: Collection Development using the Collection Mapping Technique: a Guide for Librarians. 3rd ed. by David V. Loertscher and Marc Crompton. Hi Willow Research and Publishing, 2018. Available from http://lmcsource.com in a digital version.

Textbook Reading:

Textbook readings correspond with Workshop dates. See the course Calendar for chapter assignments by date. You do not need to submit reading notes on the textbook.

Additional Reading Assignment:

In addition to the textbook, you must read and take notes on a variety of materials outside of class. These may include journal articles, videos, chapters you might read in a collection development text other than the one for this class, and any other interesting resources that you find that help understand the role of libraries and their collections these days. They should total the equivalent of a full textbook of 300 pages (you can count our textbook as part of the 300 but don't submit any notes on the textbook reading to the blog or in your notes). Share your findings with your peers on the Course Blog, and keep a simple record of what you add to this collaborative effort. Include that record in your reading notes.

You must take notes on these additional reading materials. These can be as brief or detailed as you wish. Submit the completed notes to the professor via Canvas before the last day of the semester. The assignment is worth 30 points.
