Class overview

The interior design practicum or internship is completed between your junior and senior years. It is a course required for graduation from the interior design program. This is a work-study course supervised by the site coordinator. The student should be able to apply the knowledge learned from classes to real-life situations. The internship site must meet certain criteria and be approved by faculty before the student may start.


 

 Site Criteria

Must provide learning experience similar to that of the Georgia Southern Interior Design program

Designers at chosen internship location must have CIDA or NASAD accredited degrees, be NCIDQ certified or registered designers, and be part of one of the following organizations:

ASID

IIDA

NEWH

NKBA

Is an interior design or architectural firm, lighting, furniture or other showroom or a retail store that provides design services


 Important Rules

Site must be able to assist student in meeting their goals and objectives and provide them with a good learning experience. Students are not allowed to intern at previous places of employment nor can they work with family.

Students must conduct themselves in a respectful, professional manner and remember they are representing the Georgia Southern Interior Design program.


 Prerequisite(s)

A minimum grade of “C” in INDS 3436 and INDS 3438 is required to register for INDS 4790. INDS 4790 is a prerequisite to INDS 4434, 4435, and 4436. Failure to receive a satisfactory grade in 4790 will result in the inability to register for the noted courses.


Required Hours

There is the option to sign up for 3 or 6 credit hours. It is required to work at least 7 weeks over the course of the internship for 3 credit hours, and a minimum of 10 weeks for 6 credit hours (3 credit=162 hrs ; 6 credit=186 hrs).

Internship Orientation: February 2 

Deadline to Secure a Practicum Site: April 6 

Deadline for Signed Paperwork: April 20


Starting Dates and End Dates for Both Sections:

May 16- July 13

Section A  - 7 Weeks - 3 Credits   Long Term

Section B - 10 Weeks - 6 Credits  Long Term


Material Due Dates

Internship Project Proposal: June 4
