Indivisible Polk County promotes democracy by working within our own communities. Below you will find information about our current priorities and initiatives.
Polk County Commissioners are non-partisan positions and can be voted on by any voter regardless of party affiliation. Any one candidate who receives more than 50% of the vote in the primary automatically wins and doesn’t need to go onto the November ballot.
Indivisible Polk County, led by an elections team, worked diligently over the past few months to get to know the candidates running for Polk County Commissioner positions #2 and #3 to see which candidates might best match the priorities of Indivisible Polk. We carefully developed a statement of what was important to the group in a candidate, and a list of questions was sent to all candidates. Responses were received from candidates Roxanne Beltz (pos #2), Carlos Barrientos (pos #3), Steve Milligan (pos #3), and Jeremy Gordon (pos #3). We received no response from candidates John Swanson (pos #2) and Mark Gordon Adams (pos #3).
We are proud to share our findings and recommended Jeremy Gordon and Roxanne Beltz for the primary election on May 19th.
We are happy to share that Jeremy received a significant portion of the vote in the primary election on May 19th and recommend him again for the November runoff election!
Indivisible Polk County stands firmly against ICE and Border Patrol-sanctioned violence. We demand that our elected officials immediately stand against efforts to provide further funding to these agencies. Further we demand accountability, transparency, and immediate and independent investigation into incidents of violence involving ICE and Border Patrol agents.
We ask our community to stand together by engaging in the following actions:
Call your representative and demand they investigate ICE’s detention facilities, expose the conditions that immigrants are facing, and block any additional funding for ICE and Border Patrol.
Call both of your senators and demand the same. Then, encourage your friends and neighbors to call their Members of Congress, too.
Indivisible Polk County opposes both the SAVE America Act (HR 7296) and Make Elections Great Again (MEGA) Act (HR 7300) which would not improve election security but would make it much harder for everyday American's to vote.
We ask our community to stand against any version of voter suppression legislation by engaging in the following actions:
Email your Members of Congress and demand they vote NO on any bill that attacks voter rights
Call both of your senators and demand the same. Then, encourage your friends and neighbors to take action.
