On December 14, 2020, a New York nurse received the first COVID-19 vaccine in the U.S.—a hopeful milestone. But as vaccine distribution expanded, racial disparities quickly became clear: white Americans were getting vaccinated at higher rates, while communities of color faced greater illness and death.
We saw the same gap in Pinellas County. Then known as Indivisible Safety Harbor/North Pinellas, we partnered with local organizations and pushed for change. We attended County Commission meetings and urged the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas to act.
Thanks to persistent advocacy from our coalition, the County ultimately strengthened its COVID-19 response in underserved communities—bringing vital resources where they were needed most. Read the full story HERE.

John Lewis, joining 150 events happening in 41 states and Washington, D.C. to celebrate his extraordinary legacy. Residents also called on Congress to pass critical legislation to protect the freedom to vote, end gerrymandering, and get money out of politics to realize Rep. Lewis’ vision for a democracy that works for all of us.
We joined other groups to rally for our school board candidates, local mayors, commissioner, county board, the amendments and others.
Along with other local grassroots groups' leaders, we hosted a People Powered Elections & People Powered Education event. The Election event purpose was to gather active Pinellas area grassroots organizations’ leaders or representatives to share their GOTV experiences: what worked, what didn’t work and what creative ideas can be shared for the upcoming election cycle to inform and get unlikely voters to the polls. Successes and ineffective efforts will be shared amongst the groups as a collaborative learning exercise. We are asking each group to bring new and creative ideas to present. This non-partisan effort will create relationships improving each individual group’s potential for future successes. A similar event was held to focus on support Public Education.
