Talitha Harrington founded the Independence High School Winter Guard in fall 2019, launching a program that has grown steadily in size and achievement. The Varsity team earned promotions in 2020 and 2022 and competed at the Cologuard Scholastic A1 level in 2023. Mrs. Young joined the coaching staff in 2023.
That same year, a Junior Varsity team was established and competed in Cologuard Scholastic Regional A2, expanding performance opportunities for students.
In 2026, Lindell Palmer joins the program full time as Guard Director, continuing to build on the program’s strong foundation and competitive momentum.
Winter Guard tryouts are open to students at Independence High School and Brambleton Middle School. Auditions are held each November, and the season runs through early April.
