Some will think that my work is about the death of my mother and view it as something fraught with despair. In contrast, my work is also celebratory—it's about honoring and remembering her as a means to keeping her close.
I am tending her legacy, and in that I am tending my grief.
We all experience grief, whether the death of a loved one, relocating to another state, or an "empty nest". It can happen with any loss or severance from something we once had or known. Below is a running list of resources that have helped me with different types of grief.

Tove Phillips has a packed Linktree page filled with resources for those local to Rochester, NY. She is a certified death doula, from the same program I attended (UVM) and an ordained ULC minister. Most notably, she runs the local Death Cafe and the Crypt Cafe at the Mount Hope Cemeterary Gatehouse.
This is the Instagram account for an app called Untangle Grief. While I have not tried the app, I have long enjoyed their posts about grief and loss that take form in art and affirmations. The app was started by a woman in London in 2020 after the death of her grandfather.
Megan Devine is a therapist who suddenly lost her husband to the sea. Her grief was turbulent and messy. This is what led her to write her book "It's Okay You're Not Okay". Her instagram has many grief validating post and includes some information about her podcast and other resources.

Parenting can be a continual grieving process. It is often difficult to recognize when we are constantly adapting to the evolving changes in our children's lives. This animated short from Disney made me think about the grief struggles my mother had raising me, and my own feelings as a parent.
