ISTE Inclusive Learning Network Summer Book Study 2021

Welcome

This is your welcome and HOME page for the ISTE Inclusive Learning Network Book Study 2021. Why this book study and why now?

Andratesha Fritzgerald writes "“We cannot, in good conscience, stand by and watch another generation be marginalized because we don’t take action.” Let's hold this as our call to action as we engage with the content in this book and with each other in this book study.

We are happy to have you join us as we read Antiracism and Universal Design for Learning: Building Expressways to Success by Andratesha Fritzgerald.

This book study will run from July 5th to July 30th, 2021.

Your Choice and Voice

You have the choice to read and connect as much or as little as you wish. In these troubling times, we will hold our own health and wellness as a primary consideration while engaging with this text together. As with most road trips, we have a suggested reading schedule and some suggested weekly activities. But, you should make this your own learning journey and check the highways and byways along your reading roadway.

Consistent Pitstops

We'll use this website as a consistent space to gather, curate information and organize the spaces and places we'll share. As we read and learn together, this website will become a living document, a hub to bring people together. The planning team will use this site to curate your wonderings, insights, creations, and resources. Use this pitstop to begin here, return here, rest here, and connect from here as you journey the expressways or slow roads to success.

Use the hashtag #ILNBookStudy21 on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to connect your ideas to this book study. Add any of the ILN leadership team to your posts so we can connect and extend your insights from this book.

Use this Twitter list to connect to others in this book study. If your name is not on this list, send a tweet or email to @hd_dewaard and ask for your name to be added to this list.

Follow the ILN channel @InclusiveLN on Twitter

We have additional spaces and places during each of the weeks. You can choose to 'stop by' and contribute in any of these locations, depending on your reading goals.

Getting Ready

Just as we do with any road trip or learning journey, we take time to prepare. This page [links to the Week Zero: Getting Ready page on this site] will set out some actions and reflections that can help you prepare and begin the reading journey. There is a map to help you navigate through the highways and expressways designed for this book study. It's up to you to set goals and plan for your trip.

Special Kick-Off Event

A panel discussion with Andratesha Fritzgerald and Dr. Batheseba Opini is scheduled on June 29th at 1:00 pm (Pacific timezone) in partnership with the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Education, Educational Technology Supports (ETS) department. This is the fourth in a series of discussion to explore a range of pedagogical issues relating to teaching and learning with technology.

This is an open opportunity to engage in this conversation, but you will need to register for this event through the UBC ETS portal. Once registered, you will be emailed with the information and a Zoom link for this session.
