Above is our Google Sheet showing the list of materials we expect to use on our final prototype and how much they cost. Because of the different types of sources we used for each of our materials, the expected cost to build our final prototype is estimated to be anywhere between $296.67 to $501.79. However, we will probably use the cheapest options for each material, causing the cost to be somewhere around $300. This is not counting the fact that we already have a couple of these materials in the classroom, causing the cost to be even lower.
If we were to mass-produce our product, then the cost would be lower because the materials would be mass produced, causing the mounts to cost significantly less money. This way the general public would be able to afford our wheelchair mount.
Reflection: It is very important to have many different sources that you can go to access the materials that you need to complete your project. The fact that our final prototype could vary anywhere between $296.67 to $501.79 shows that you should be very wise when choosing your materials. The goal of our wheelchair mount prototype is to make it cheaper, but just as easily functional, and by having three sources we are able to choose the cheapest one and achieve our goal.
