Since we chose the SourceAmerica Design Competition that meant we had to meet face to face with a disabled person. Our teacher helped us find that there was a school for disabled people looking to go into jobs, and we emailed the principal of Miller Career and Transition Center asking if we could interview one of his students who have a disability that gets in their way at their job. We have not yet received an email from the principal, but we are planning on getting ahead of the game, and in case we never receive an email back our teacher showed us a problem that students in our own school were having. Many kids play the trombone in our school's orchestra, but when you're just starting off, sometimes your arms are too short to extend the trombone all the way, that's why there are extensions that you can attach to the trombone handle to give you the extra reach. The only problem is that the people that our school buys the extensions from have stopped producing them, and they stepped in and asked us for help; seeing if we could design the same product. This showed our team that you can find small problems that can be solved through engineering everywhere, and without coding you can come up with a very valid solution, officially changing our thoughts on the need to incorporate coding into our project.
