EDD or Engineering Design and Development is a class that focuses on the development of a product that uses engineering ideas to solve a human problem. Our team, consisting of Ryan Dautel, Vedant Patel and myself, have decided to participate in the SkillsUSA competition that is also known as Career Pathways Showcase and the SourceAmerica Design Challenge for High School.
The software we will be incorporating into our hardware design is Assistive-Context Aware Toolkit (ACAT), which is the same software that Stephen Hawking used to help him communicate with the rest of the world. ACAT is a software that reads facial movements, such as an eyebrow lift, a blink, or a cheek twitch, and the moves the cursor around on the computer to help you type, it then says the words out loud using text-to-speech. ACAT is an open-source software which allows us to download it and make adjustments to it if we need to.
