The subject expresses scientific ideas through art, for example students partake in sculpture workshop exploring ideas about conservation, or make a stop frame animation about something in science which interests them. Students gain confidence in self expression and blue skies thinking as well as developing practical skills and fine motor control. Skills of idea development, drafting and improving, working to a deadline and teamwork are also improved.
Project based learning model incorporating Art into the understanding and expression of Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics.
There is no formal assessment for this course, but work is included in the PBL Summer Showcase where academic and business partners can view the work and discuss it with the students.
This course improves confidence, encourages the idea of working long term to improve and hone a piece of work, and allows students space to investigate their skills and strengths and improve their weaknesses. It also allows valuable opportunities for self-expression and free thinking. This course therefore contributes to all future learning by helping students be confident and well rounded.
