Creative

what will i learn?

In year nine, students will complete a series of small projects responding to a range of different themes across creative fields, including art, graphic design, photography, and film. The focus of the projects will be on developing a range of practical skills in various industry standard software such as Adobe Photoshop as well as more traditional processes such as printing and drawing, as well as for students to develop a sense of their own creative voice and expression of their own ideas.

What topics?

Projects will tie in a range of skills using a creative process that incorporates research, planning, experimentation, and reflection to produce creative outcomes. Past projects have linked to the theme of “visual storytelling”, and have included creating surreal narratives using digital illustration, creating 3D vases inspired by the work of Grayson Perry, stop-motion animation gifs and short films, flip books, and book cover illustration.

How is it assessed?

Students will use this year to prepare and develop skills for a GCSE creative course, and will become aware of the steps of the creative process (research, documentation, planning, experimentation, reflection, and creation of a final outcome). Students will be given verbal and written feedback formatively, to help them refine and develop their skills further.

How will this prepare me?

The creative pathway lays the foundation for both the technical, analytical and problem-solving skills required for future creative and academic endeavours. Students will be challenged through learning new skills and in design challenges, as well as gaining confidence in their abilities as creators. Students develop understanding of visual Art and Design skills which will prepare them for GCSE courses, and ultimately, for work in a number of creative careers, as well as transferable skills such as problem solving, divergent thinking, practical work, and learning as a result of research, experimentation, reflection, and resilience.
