Historical Background The Library as the heart of the university has undergone a progressive transformation. The collection of books started when the institution was named Ifugao Agricultural and Technical College (IATC). Miss Adriana Saquing and Mrs. Venus M. Dait volunteered as overseers by providing a library corner in their offices and taking charge of loaning and returning books. As book collection increased through purchases and donations, the need for a secured and the systematized library was recognized by the administration.
All library holdings were placed in a room at the High School Department and were ably managed by Mrs. Godfreda Dulnuan and her staff: Mrs. Perlita Palaleo, Mrs. Aquilina Saguilot and Mrs. Alicia Binwag. In view of the imminent retirement of Mrs. Dulnuan, the younger assistants prepared themselves academically by enrolling in undergraduate and graduate programs. In 1997, Miss Emily Sungduan, an alumnus of the college and a licensed/professional librarian was hired to administer and supervise the school library.
She embraced the challenge in pursuit of academic excellence and continued to prepare systems and procedures for library operation and utilization in coordination with the administration, the faculty, and the students. The school library was given more decent housing when it was relocated to the right-wing of the administrative building. It was more accessible to patrons, more spacious, well-lighted, and ventilated. Volumes and titles of library holdings continued to rise, thus, a separate building was recommended to accommodate all library materials, equipment, and facilities.
The Graduate Studies building was converted to a university library with a sufficient number of staff to organize and maintain the collection as well as to manage information services for the clientele. Parallel to the growth of the library for the Main Campus at Nayon, Lamut, Ifugao, satellite libraries were established.
Potia, Tinoc, and Lagawe Campus libraries are headed by licensed librarians holding master’s degrees while the libraries for Hapao and Aguinaldo are managed by assigned faculty. March 2017, Dr. Liza M. Tamargo, a licensed librarian was hired as the College Librarian III and designated as the Director for Library Services. Ms. Maricel Aglusolos a licensed librarian and 5 other paraprofessionals staff the main campus library. In August 2017, Ms. Deborah Lumecio, a licensed librarian has been designated as 3 Enhanced Operations Manual for Library Services.
