At the beginning Mr. Mohamad introduce to the students the benefits of representing data visually, and then proceeded with giving real life examples from his career. He also illustrated how much data analysis skill is important to industrial engineering. Finally, the attendees were given exercises to make the session more interactive. The workshop was truly a success due to Mr. Mohamad's knowledge and experience that gave the chance for 24 students to learn from with a 3 training hours session.
In cooperation with the Systems Engineering Club at KFUPM, GAMS Software Workshop took place on both Tuesday and Wednesday the 25th and 26th of February and it was given by Dr. Syed Mujahid. The 36 attendees learned how to build a linear and non-linear mathematical models using the GAMS software and then finding the optimal solutions using solvers, also they got to know how to solve integral models in addition to the way of getting the data from Microsoft Excel.
On Sunday the 9th and the 16th of February IEOM KFUPM conducted a short course about Microsoft Excel which was presented by Engineer Abdulaziz Alzahrani. The students were taught both simple and advanced excel functions like: “count”,” if”, “index”, and “match”. In addition, they got to know more about using Excel proficiently like how to act depending on the meaning of the error messages and some quick cut offs which is commonly used. The course ended successfully with 22 students attending it.
In cooperation with the Systems Engineering Club at KFUPM, the Procter and Gamble Dammam plant visit took place on Tuesday the 11th of February. The students started the visit with an overview about the Dammam plant and a brief about its history, then it was followed by what does a process engineer at the plant does. Afterwards the students took a tour around the plant and finally the visit finished with a group photo and a Q&A session. The visit gave the students an insight on how it feels to be a process engineer and was quite enriching to them on one of the common applications of industrial engineering.
In cooperation with the Systems Engineering Club at KFUPM, the Co-op student meeting has occurred on Wednesday the 29th of January.
