Okra

Bhendi (okra) is a common vegetable consumed in Indian subcontinent and in several countries of African continent. Yellow vein mosaic disease of bhendi is one of the oldest viral diseases reported from India and is an important constraint in its stable production. We have investigated the viruses and virus-associated satellite molecules in affected bhendi plants from geographically distant regions of India and found evidence of recombination and sequence diversity in them (Rishishwar et al., 2015). We have also published a review of the RNAi suppressors encoded by geminiviruses and satellite molecules (Rishishwar and Dasgupta, 2018).
