Our Purposes
1) To know what is happening especially in Myanmar Tourism, both from positive and negative points of views
2) To brainstorm what we can do to promote sustainable tourism and to increase the number of tourists
Taishogun Shopping Street, known as “Ichijo Yokai Street”, is located in the northern part of Kyoto city. This 400m long shopping street has played a role in the local infrastructure for the local residents for a long time with the theme of “monsters”. This is based on the legend of monsters’ parade called “Hyakki Yakou” from the old days. They hold Yokai (monster) related events such as “Mononoke Ichi” (ghost flea market.), and “Ichijo Hyakki Yakou” (Yokai Costume Parade) every summer. Also, there are dozens of dozens of temples and shrines, such as Kitano Tenmangu Shrine near the street.
Nishiki Market is a historic shopping street in Kyoto with a length of 390 meters. Many shops are lined up along the streets of the shopping street and handle Kyoto's unique ingredients (pickled, dried and confectionery) and can sample. It is thriving every day with a lot of locals and tourists coming.
The Myanmar Responsible Tourism Institute (MRTI) is a non-profit organisation aiming to support responsible tourism development in Myanmar through knowledge sharing, training, and research. Its mission is to create a knowledge sharing and training platform, empowering partners to work together towards responsible tourism. MRTI organizes and conducts education and training programs related to responsible tourism, destination management, heritage and cultural management, corporate social responsibility (CSR), methodologies and multi-stakeholder meetings. In addition, it has an E-library which offers resources related to responsible tourism. MRTI also conducts Tourism Research with an expert team and provides a coordination hub for responsible tourism projects.
The Tourism Assistant Project is a branch of PIU ( Phaung Daw Oo International University). And it is financially supported by Non-Government Organization, Forderverein Myanmar e.V. The class is run at the Phaung Daw Oo Monastic School and the class starts from 5 pm to 7 pm every Monday to Friday. The duration of the course lasts for 9 months, 6 months for theory and 3 months for internship program. The academic period is from June to December, and the internship period is from January to April. In the theoretical period, students have to do assignments, reports and presentations for every related subject. In addition, there are also volunteering works like clean campaigns and students also participate in it to create a better environment for society. For the internship program, students can choose their desired fields like tour agencies or hotels or restaurants etc, to work in. Before the Batch 5, the course is only for certificate programs. But starting from this year, Batch 5, the program is upgraded as the "Diploma in Tourism Management" course. The destination of the program is to create more job opportunities for youths in the tourism industry. And it is intended to support the ones who are coming from poor financial backgrounds.
