Watch the Khan Academy video below to see how the Ideal Gas Law can be applied to Deflate Gate.
Pretend you are going with your family on a vacation and your parents are loading up your family's bikes to take with you on the trip. Your father makes sure to pump up everyone's tires to the manufacture's suggested tire pressure before you leave. To get away from the hot summer weather in Duluth, Georgia, your family decides to drive up to the Tennessee mountains because the average daily temperature is 20 degrees cooler.
When your family gets to your destination, you mother tells you to put more air in the bike tires to make sure they ride as smoothly as they did back in Duluth. Your father tells you not to bother because he had just pumped them up before you left and the tire pressure has not changed. Using what you have learned about the Ideal Gas Law, explain why your mother or father is correct.
