THE QUALITATIVE APPROACH
Let us address the issue of quality, as different from quantity, perceiving the Quadrant Model. This would be to be intuitively oriented towards the model, as different from sensually. It would be to explore the essence of the model, that is to see what is typical of any notion in the model. By doing so, the model becomes authoritative.
We will, of course, not make any gods. The commandment of God is clear, in that respect. What we will do is to look at the four realities in life and show that those have qualities, – as the meeting with a bear implies a different orientation than the meeting with an eagle.
It is my observation that:
Time is the manner of the Ideal. The Idea is typically Time.
Place is the matter of the Material. The Practise is typically Place.
Heart is the individuality of the Subjective. The Subject is typically Heart.
Mind is the collectiveness of the Objective. The Object is typically Mind.
If so, we can reformulate the Quadrant model so that TIME is on the top, PLACE is on the bottom, HEART is to the right, and MIND is to the left, when looking at the model from the outside.
We will label the four quadrants anew, so that the Autogene reality becomes ‘HeartTime’, the Endogene reality becomes ‘HeartPlace’, the Exogene reality becomes ‘MindPlace’, and the Extragene reality becomes ‘MindTime’.
Differently form the original quantitative view on the model, this qualitative view lets us see that the involvement of each label (that is of Time, Place, Heart and Mind) will go from 100% to 0% along the axes. So, the four quadrants are not set apart from each other, but are typically more or less present.
If we make this model, we can better make use of the model in counselling and in developing self-awareness. Too much of any orientation would be considered disturbing.
By this model, we can address qualitative concepts, such as:
HeartTime
- Value
- Song
HeartPlace
- Emotion
- Memory
MindPlace
- Motive
- Poetry
MindTime
- Knowledge
- Picture
I believe this qualitative expansion of the Quadrant Model increases its worth, since the model no longer is reduced to labelling notions in life. The model can be used to see focus as lacking.
APPLICABILITY
Having formulated the qualitative approach to The Quadrant Model, practical implications are called for. And the overall applicability of the model has to do with seeing the four quadrants relative to each other.
Let us make the example by seeing the four art forms relative to each other. These are:
1. The HeartTime aspect:
- Song.
- This might be Aiode in Greek mythology.
2. The HeartPlace aspect:
- Storytelling.
- This might be Arche in Greek mythology.
3. The MindPlace aspect:
- Poetry.
- This might be Thelxinoe in Greek mythology.
4. The MindTime aspect:
- Picturing
- This might be Melete in Greek mythology.
As we see, the artforms might coincide with the four muses in Greek mythology, as they came to be. And typically, individuals will have a preference in the way they create. There are four possibilities: One will be of value (as HeartTime), of worth (as HeartPlace), of use (as MindPlace), or of pleasure (as MindTime).
Few are those who create in more than one way. I am one. I create in all four ways.
If one is occupied with creating in one particular way, one will naturally be oriented towards two other areas in the model. For example, if one first of all create by making songs (as HeartTime), one will be oriented towards picture making (the MindTime) and towards storytelling (the HeartPlace). So, poetry making (the MindPlace) will be more foreign. This means, one will not be of _value_ to the outer, actual world. If occupied with creating in one particular way, there will always be an area which is totally foreign.
The three areas which _are_ valid will be what was, what is, and what will become, as if by the phases of the moon. I see _three_ fases of the moon (the wax, - the full moon -, the wane, as what was, is, and will be). The fourth quadrant will be the area one is unfamiliar with. For example, picturing waxes to song writing (the full moon), and wanes to storytelling. Qualitatively, Extragen reality waxes to Autogene reality, which wanes to Endogene reality. When Autogene reality is the full moon, one is totally foreign to the Exogene reality.
THE IDEA OF HISTORY
Quantitatively looking at history, one may get the notion history unfolds in four phases as if by the seasons of the year. Time is perceived in this way, as if by the watch. When so doing, one can order historical epochs and events to fit The Quadrant Model.
Qualitatively, history unfolds a bit differently. Look at the tree: It seems to be so that history takes place in three faces by the root, the stem, and the foliage. The fact, though, is that the greenish shows almost immediately after the growth has come through the ground, a long time before any stem is seen. So, root is the first, foliage is the second, and stem is the third if we are a bit nuanced. Speaking of growth throughout the four seasons, it is a fact that the essence of fall appears before the essence of summer. There is, in fact, a lot of growth which dies late spring without ever having experienced any summer.
So, speaking of history, seeing the The Quadrant Model explaining growth, the qualitative approach would be a bit different from the quantitative. And it is not practical to explain history by the qualitative approach to the model. The case is, subjectively one will feel like going through the phases as from Autogene to Exogene, then to Endogene before ending up in the Extragene. History, though, shows one goes through the phases like as by the seasons.
My reference to how history unfolds, as here stated, would be the first chapter of The Bible, that is, the Creation.
Please see that the following poem reflects what is here stated: The ink cartridge should have been the second object to be created, judged by the look of it.
THE MODEL
At first was chaos. And so when,
it woke for to become a pen.
As it to be, it would be one.
Its quality had to be done.
A knob it was. That was its name.
As such, it was not much of fame.
From poverty it was to rise.
So, made were springs and trust device.
And neither that is not much worth.
To save, the third was made on earth.
Ink cartridge it was called, that which
made trust device and springs more rich.
The three of them though, was not much.
The tree it was not like, as such.
The fourth to save had to become.
By barrel made the pen was some.
That something now was made and done.
From chaos first, the being one,
in stages four The Love let bring.
Beginning was the joy of spring.
By every step The Lord did save.
Of course, the pen knew to behave.
Though, by Messiah that thing came
to be alive; - a thing of fame.
