About
About
Histories of disability stretch far back, because it is a deeply human experience. How we understand it changes with the records we keep and the stories we tell. Inspired by collections in Explore York Archives, this exhibition explores how disability was represented in census and other records from the 1800s. Created by a York collective of disability artists, the exhibition reclaims and reworks these archival representations to assert a vision of ‘disability joy’ today.

About
About
In this taster session, come and experience Shared Story’s ‘Not a Book Club’ group and the joy of shared reading. There’s nothing to prepare beforehand and no pressure to read aloud.
The idea for Shared Story was born from the organisers’ experience of working in health and social care and hearing first-hand how difficulties with concentration and focus resulted in people with long term conditions sometimes finding themselves unable to read, a once enjoyable part of their lives. All are welcome!
