Student-Initiated Learning

Student-Initiated Learning (SIL)

The SIL Programme part of HBL and is designed to provide opportunity for students to learn to be an independent, passionate, and life-long learner. It enables students to exercise agency, explore their interests and passions, and learn within and beyond the curriculum. It also helps students to discover their interests and plan how they should go about pursuing them.

Students have been assigned a planning template in the Student Learning Space (SLS) or given a hardcopy worksheet (for Sec 1s). In SFSS, students will explore SIL under one of the following themes. Some examples have also been provided (list is not exhaustive).

Students would not be graded based on what they have learnt during SIL. This is to motivate their learning and avoid over-emphasis on grades, particularly in this context of harnessing their interests to nurture intrinsic motivation.

At the end of their SIL journey in Term 4, students will submit a reflection on their learning and will have an opportunity to showcase their learning to their peers.
