Unit Terminal Objective
Identify the course scope, objectives, and classroom logistics.
Unit Enabling Objectives
1. Identify the course scope and objectives.
2. Explain how assigned groups will function during the course activities.
Methodology
This unit uses lecture, handouts, an activity, and discussion to identify the course scope, objectives, and virtual classroom logistics. The pretest will be administered in this unit.
The purpose of this activity is to assign students to groups and to provide the opportunity for the members to introduce themselves, decide how they will operate during activities throughout the course, and how they will complete daily check-in and their group’s ICS Form 214 Activity Log.
Total activity time is 30 minutes, which includes 20 minutes of group discussion and 10 minutes of presenting your group’s operating ground rules.
Instructions for this activity:
1. The instructor will assign you to a group and provide a breakout room invitation.
2. Meet in your assigned group to:
Introduce yourselves and state how you can contribute (e.g., summarize group discussions in a Google doc or other format that you can screen share with the class, serve as a spokesperson for the group when needed, actively participate in group discussions).
Discuss how you will operate as a group during activities and other assignments throughout this course (e.g., define who will perform key functions for each group activity such as group facilitator, recorder/scribe, tech support for sharing work products, timekeeper, spokesperson, etc.)
Document and present 2-3 expectations your group discussed.
5. Complete daily check-in and Activity Log (ICS Form 214).
3. Be prepared to present your operating ground rules in 20 minutes.
