Ninth Grade

Because you are planning to go to college, it’s important that you take the right classes in high school. This means that, beginning in 9th grade, the majority of your classes should be ones that will prepare you for admission to and, perhaps even more importantly, success in college. Most admission officers will tell you that the first thing they look at is your choice of classes, even before they look at grades. When it comes time to apply to college, you want to make sure that you meet the admission criteria for ALL colleges in which you are interested. Always remember that it is much better to be “over prepared” than “under prepared.”

• Meet with us to develop an academic strategy and to discuss opportunities available in high school, and how to take advantage of them.
• Join teams, clubs, and/or volunteer to do community service.
• Take PSAT/NMSQT in October and keep your eye out for sign up opportunities at your school. If you don't see a sign up option, ask your counselor how to sign up.
• Choose your courses for the next year wisely - choose challenging courses in which you can do well.
• Work during the summer or take interesting summer school courses. Plan and get involved in a science project. Compete in a science competition. Compete in a math competition. Get involved in extracurricular activities.
