There are no screws used in the assembly of this module. Instead, 1.75mm PLA rivets are used as hinge pins to allow free rotation as the gripper moves up and down. The rivets can be made using raw 3D printer filament and flaring out the ends by applying a hot (~120°C) flat surface such as a hot glue gun.

- Top platform with servo mount
The 1.75mm filament will be used to create hinge pins using a hot glue gun or soldering iron set to low temperature (120°C). In this guide, a soldering iron with temperature control is used to create these hinges.

Assemble the top platform using a servo with the bracket around the shaft. Press the bracket into the top platform as shown below.

Mount the arm with the larger hole on the servo gear. The servo will need to be calibrated before proceeding.

To calibrate the servo, gently rotate it with the arm mounted. The goal is to reach the end of the range of motion just before the arm contacts the top platform. The arm may need to be removed and readjusted to reach the correct position.

Now is the time to make the hinge pins. Using the soldering iron or glue gun, press the end of the filament to the hot end until a small ridge forms. For a nicer shape, press the filament against a table before it has a chance to cool down. The result should look like a small screw as shown.

Thread the newly created hinge pin through the servo bracket hole. Thread the second arm through the pin as well.

Cut the filament so that there is about 3mm sticking out of the hole and use the soldering iron or glue gun to heat the filament to create the other side of the hinge pin.

Create three more hinge pins that can fit through the servo housing with enough extra length to also thread though the arms and left gripper claw.

Press the servo into the servo housing and secure it with the C-clip. This will hold the hinge pins in place for the other components.

Calibrate this servo in the same way as the first servo. Attach the gripper claw with the larger hole to the gear shaft. Rotate the shaft until it reaches the end of its range of motion facing forward as shown.
