BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Enugu state is in the Southeast geo-political zone of Nigeria and is poised to achieve the government goals of increased food security and harness the export opportunities of crops and livestock in the state.
Due to her abundant agricultural land within tropical forests and savannah belts, it boasts of approximately 8,023 square kilometers, abundant water resources which include 14 water reservoirs, 50 lakes, and numerous rivers and streams.
Over 70% of her population are rural and full-time agrarians. The state has vast unexploited and latent potentials in agriculture and agro- industrials. The bountiful supply of these natural resources supports irrigation potentials, fishery/aquaculture, and high yield staple/cash crops like rice, cassava, maize, yams, bananas/plantain, oil-palm produce, cashew, pineapple, and varieties of fruits and vegetables.
