Processing of Agricultural Produce
One of the cardinal programmes in Enugu state is to establish agro-allied industries in the three senatorial zones of the state charged with the responsibility of adding values to Agric products along the value chain and segments in these four ways:
1. product transformation,
2. distribution,
3. storage, and
4. added service.
The techniques that are employed in achieving this are:
1. Food Processing. Food processing involves converting raw agricultural products into various processed foods.
2. Packaging and Branding
3. Grading and Sorting
4. Preservation Techniques.
5. Organic and Specialty Certification.
6. Ready-to-Use Products.
The government has further conglomerated the small and intermediate-scale farmers into big farm clusters with the aim to mop up large volume of their production output that would be required as raw materials by the agro-allied industries.
