My canvas is both my medium and my message—literally and figuratively. I paint what I see around me, drawing from my childhood memories and my life as a daughter, wife, mother, a newly minted grandmother, educator and artist. Each piece begins with charcoal scribbles, followed by splashes of color and lines that evolve as I work. I rarely plan ahead; the image emerges organically, guided by instinct and emotion.
My life’s journey has deeply shaped me as an artist. Born and raised in India, I earned a fine arts degree in Chennai, where I was introduced to both Western and Indian art traditions. I developed a love for each and continue to move fluidly between Indian folk styles and modernist approaches such as Impressionism and Cubism—with equal flare.
Having lived in California for several decades, I am a fusion of both cultures, and that blend infuses my art. When I paint buildings, I think of the architect who envisioned them, the workers who built them, and the lives unfolding inside and beside them. Through every painting, I invite the viewer to look beyond the façade—to find a reflection of themselves and their own journey within the layers of color and form.
