About Me

Hello! I am Sid Thakur, a computer scientist by profession and a paper-cutting artist by passion. I live in Cary, NC. I create original, unique handmade paper art by cutting paper using craft knives and scissors.

Origins
I discovered paper-cutting art in an article on a paper-cutting artist from Jaipur, India. What began as a curiosity about producing abstract patterns grew into a lifelong hobby and a creative outlet.

Themes

Largely self-taught, I have developed paper-cutting techniques and themes through observation, a steady hand, and experimentation.

Prominent themes in my work include symmetry and reinforcement through repetition, abstract and geometric patterns, nature and science-fiction topics, climate change, and cultural themes inspired by the rich mythologies of India, my country of origin.

I have exhibited at art galleries and museums, and I love to do live workshops at schools, cultural events, and local libraries. I lead the Community of Indian American Visual Artists (CIVA) www.civanc.org, a group of local artists in the Triangle area in NC.

All paper cuts shown below are hand made using special silhouette paper, which allows me to cut thin and fine shapes.
