Homework

Please note, each night that we have a math lesson from our Engaged NY textbook, students will have homework that corresponds to the assignment to assist with mastery.

We review math concepts and take notes for the new concept each day. Then, we model today's lesson with guided practice. Afterwards, they can work with a partner or in a group setting as teacher monitors and assists as needed. Students follow up with an exit slip in class to prove they understand the concept for the day; teacher will reteach during Math Tier Time or Reading and Conferencing if a student needs additional practice. The homework is for the students to complete on their own. If you'd like to check it over, feel free, but this allows us to see if they mastered the concept.

Grading:

  • Homework is due as students walk into the room each morning.
  • Homework will have a score in top right corner (+ did great, check mark ok with few errors, - needs assistance with concept) each problem with assigned will have check mark if correct or an X if incorrect.
  • If there are multiple errors, teacher will pull the student and work the problems together on the paper or a whiteboard, so they can grasp the concept one-on-one.
  • Please visit the website below if you have questions about the curriculum, Engaged NY.

Use the Curriculum Map on the left of website to assist you with the lessons. Typically, Homework will have an abbreviation. Eg. M1L2 for Module 1, Lesson 2 with the assigned numbers circled.

Please note that it will look like the following picture. It reads Lesson 2 Homework with 5*1 next to it because it's for 5th grade, Module 1. If a student loses their paper or it simply gets left behind, you can download the assignment on this site -or- they can call a friend and write the assigned HW problems down on a piece of paper to turn in on time.

Videos are available on the web for practically each lesson. Simply type in the search engine for EngagedNY lessons and the grade you want to look up, 5th in this case, which module (1) and which lesson (2). You can watch the example video below if you'd like.
