In 1981 I started shooting at sv O.K.K. in Wateringen. At that time we shot at the Hofzolder in the Hofpark farm Wateringen. Small caliber rifle (KKG) that was the only thing we could shoot, but the association wanted more. In 1994 we moved to a self-built accommodation.
In this new accommodation we could suddenly do much more. Starting with 12 x 10/12 meter lanes and 6 25/50 meter lanes we started a great adventure that eventually resulted in 12 x 10/12 meter lanes, 6 25 meter lanes and 6 50/100 meter lanes. But besides air and small caliber there was also suddenly black powder the Historical Weapons. I was quickly addicted and started shooting on the 25m Mariette in the Club-HW competition. In the beginning I experienced and laughed a lot. Stuff that was shot over the lane and lanes that spontaneously caught fire due to leftover powder.
But with this competition and the western weekends I had to have a cowboy name. You always get that from someone else. So also my name invented by Wim Visser.
And with Chokotoff we created a cult around this name. So my calling card during parties and award ceremonies was of course the candy Chokotoff.
And my name is from that moment on Ab "Chokotoff".
During that period there was an advertisement for the Chokotoff candy. In it there was a Mexican who... Oh, look for yourself.
In the late 90s I also set up a large DWSA Cowboy Action Shooting together with two other fellow shooters from the association. This became one of the largest in the Netherlands in a very short time. After the two fellow shooters stopped, I continued with this beautiful cowboy action competition with a number of volunteers.
After stopping, others took over and changed the set-up a bit to their idea, see the website of sv O.K.K. for results.
Keep an eye on the website of sv O.K.K. for the next competition.
Of course we also participated in this competition ourselves.
As early as the 1980s, the Club-HW was active at various clubs in the district in the 25 and 50 meter disciplines. Later, the 100 meter discipline was added after the opening of the 100 meter track of sv O.K.K. in Wateringen. The Club-HW annual competition was set up by shooters from the historical weapons group with the aim of a full-fledged competition for historical weapons.
In 2017, I was asked to organize this competition with Rinus P. During this period, partly due to the aging population and the lack of young talent, we introduced a new imposed competition. Imposing shooting had already been active for several years in the Air and Small Caliber departments. This was an immediate success, as many older people had difficulty with the lying discipline at 100 meters.
However, the decline in shooters continued to increase, but it also became a problem to find volunteers at the various clubs. In 2022 we had to make a difficult decision and with a heavy heart the Club-HW came to an end in 2022.
At the moment, under the DTC-HW, the competition has been started with a new format under the name Club-HW. However, the old website of Club-HW remains active under our management as a reference for the shooters.
In the meantime I have visited many competitions with good and bad results. Even once in the discipline pope in my class Dutch Champion. But that is in the distant past.
Fortunately I still have many photos that I can look back on.
After 40 years of shooting sports, my retirement has come to an end. I had to because we travel a lot and also stay in China for a long time. Because of this, I can no longer maintain my leave. But we remain loyal to the club sv O.K.K. by transferring the membership to donation.
