Dr Jenny Lee Tung HiongHead of Anatomical Pathology Unit
This unit consists of histopathology and cytopathology laboratories. The histopathology laboratory performs macroscopic and microscopic examination on human tissue to diagnose a disease, while the cytopathology laboratory involves microscopic examination of human cells that were obtained from gynaecological smears, body fluids, and fine needle aspirates.
Our laboratories are led by anatomical pathologists and assisted by medical officers, scientific officers, and medical laboratory technologists. We are dedicated to serving the community by providing superior diagnostic care, supporting and conducting advanced research, and educating professionals in histopathology and its subspecialties.
The quality of the histopathological and cytopathological examination relies heavily on the relevant clinical information provided on the request form, such as clinical history, physical examination findings, clinical diagnosis, imaging findings, operative findings, previous histopathological diagnosis, previous chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Thus providing relevant clinical information is crucial when requesting for tests.

Pap smear/ Gynaecological cytology: Conventional and liquid-based preparation (SurePath, PathTezt)
Non-gynaecological cytology: All types of body fluids (cerebrospinal fluid, pleural fluid, peritoneal/ ascitic fluid, sputum, urine, synovial fluid, bronchial lavage/ brushing, hepatobiliary brushing)
Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC)
Seminal fluid analysis
