This plant was one of the best performers of the 2006 garden season. We planted this in a pot on our deck in the backyard and the hummers visited this regularly for the entire gardening season. Additionally, this plant bloomed for the entire gardening season. We brought the pot into our 3 season room which is at 45 to 50 degrees during the winter. This plant overwintered nicely in 2007 and it bloomed profusely in its second year in a pot. We overwintered this plant inside numerous years in a row and it bloomed nicely every year.
As you can see, the above is an old picture. We are not aware of anyone still offering Salvia greggii Navajo Red. Salvia greggii Radio Red is readily available and is used extensively by hummingbirds. (We have Radio Red in our garden, but have not yet captured a picture of a hummingbird at it and thus, Radio Red is not listed on our website.)
High Country Gardens has a large variety of Salvia greggii species:
(note that outside of traditional gardening season, the HCG website will not list plants that are not in stock)
