Agastache rupestris

This is a reliable perennial that blooms in the late summer during the peak of the southward migration. Beware, though, that agastache prefers sandy, well drained soil. Because we have heavy clay soil, our agastache has died out. This is not only a good plant for the hummingbirds, but we also enjoy the licorice aroma when we brush against the plant. This plant does not garner as much attention from the hummers as Salvia guaranitica or Monarda, but it does receive a moderate amount of use during the fall migration. Agastache is widely available from mail order nurseries or local nurseries.
