2009 Whitewater Rufous

We received a phone call from Larry and Emily and October 3, 2009 about a rufous hummingbird that had been in their garden for one week. On October 4, we made the 50 mile trip to Larry and Emily's residence on a farm that is 50 miles southeast of Madison, located between Milton and Whitewater, Wisconsin. We were immediately rewarded with an instant viewing of this rufous hummingbird coming to a feeder. This picture was taken through a window:

Larry and Emily had previously been to our garden tour and have heard our Gardening for Hummingbirds program that we have presented at the Public Television Garden Expo. Our most sincere thanks to them for calling us about this bird and opening up their home to us and others. Their rufous stayed in their garden for approximately one and one-half months before he moved on.

Larry was kind enough to provide higher resolution pictures from his camera.
