2007 Stoughton Anna's

On October 17, 2007, we travelled from Madison to Stoughton, Wisconsin to see this Anna's hummingbird. Stoughton is a suburb of Madison, an approximate 20 minute drive. The homeowner noticed that after all of the ruby-throated hummingbirds had departed, that she had a different appearing hummingbird that was coming to her feeder. This bird was very cooperative, and we saw him immediately. There was a single Perky Pet Four Fountains feeder in the yard hanging from a shepherd's hook on the deck. From our angle, the hummingbird was always on a perch on the backside of the feeder, and we could only see the tail. When not on the feeder, the hummingbird was perching in a lilac bush (as seen above in this picture).

The quality of the picture is not the greatest, but we like it, because it is our picture. This is the fourth species of hummingbird that we have seen in Wisconsin (the previous three being ruby-throated, rufous, and green breasted mango).
