Archbishop James Usher dated the creation of the Earth and universe to October 23, 4004 BCE based on his 17th century literal interpretation of the Bible’s Old Testament and the Genesis genealogies. His work is now used to support Young Earth Creationism, which holds that the universe was created thousands of years ago rather than the 4.5 billion years obtained through evidence from radiometric age-dating. Presentation by David Blackman, who has taught at OLLI and has degrees in mathematics and biochemistry.
