Every Child Ready to Read
@ Your Library
YOU are your child's first teacher!
Every Child Ready to Read @ Your Library is the
Public Library Association's research-based early literacy program that encourages caregivers to support their child's pre-reading skills by using 5 practices: talking, reading, singing, writing and playing.
Talk
Talking with children helps to develop their own speaking skills, and expands their vocabulary.
Read
Reading with your child is the most important activity you can do to get them ready to read. Make reading a joyful experience and you will give your child a gift that will last a lifetime.
Sing
Singing provides opportunities to hear smaller sounds within words and new vocabulary words.
Write
Writing actually begins as the development of gross and fine motor skills.
Play
Playing with blocks, puzzles, using puppets to act out stories and other imaginative games helps develop language and critical thinking.
