Services we provide at the library:
Library tours - Youth Services welcomes schools for a program and a tour. We also have a virtual tour on our Home Page and virtual SEL storytimes for those who can't visit us in-person.
Book requests - Teachers can also request books to be pulled for pick up or email us to ask for recommendations.
Classroom Kits - Teachers are welcome to check out these kits with books, manipulatives, and worksheets. Click link for the full list and more information.
Research and technology help - Visit the library and use our materials as a class and get help with basic library skills, computer skills, and the internet.
Services we provide at your school:
School visits - We can do a storytime, book discussions, book talks, talk about the library, and much more!
Materials access - School teachers from School City of Hammond, charter, private and parochial schools, colleges and universities, preschools, day care centers, licensed home day care sites, and community after school programs within the boundaries of Hammond may also apply for a Classroom Card. Confirmation of employment is needed, as well as personal identification. The checkout limit for Classroom Cards is 100 items, with a 30-day checkout period and two renewals. Classroom Cards do not accrue overdue fines, but they do have an overdue limit of 30 items. They must be renewed annually. It is the responsibility of the school to know which student loses an item in order for HPL to be able to bill their student card. If the student does not have a card, the classroom card holder will be responsible for the fee and it will be the school's discretion whether they bill the student account.
