The HPILS Public Interest Scholarship

The HPILS Public Interest Scholarship supports students with unpaid summer public sector internships. The following summer placements will be considered when determining awards: public interest and non-profit organizations, government agencies, and judicial internships.

The John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowship

The John Paul Stevens Foundation is pleased to make available the John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowship to Howard University School of Law for the summer of 2021. The Foundation will provide three summer stipends of $5,000 each for students who will be working in full-time unpaid public interest law internships during the summer of 2021. Students interested in applying for the Stevens Fellowships will need to secure a full-time, unpaid public interest internship before applying. Internships can be at government agencies or nonprofit organizations. Judicial internships are not eligible. The Fellowship is looking for distinguished students with a passion, commitment, background and dedication to public interest work and/or public service.

The Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation Equity and Inclusion Scholarship

The Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation ("RMMLF") Equity and Inclusion Scholarship was established in 2020 to benefit Black and Indigenous students who demonstrate an interest in, and commitment to working in an area of, "natural resources law," which includes oil and gas law, mining law, renewable and other energy law, water law, public land law, environmental law, and related areas. This scholarship will be awarded to one or two JD applicants who meet the criteria attached and who identify as either Black or Indigenous (including Native American and First Nation).

To be eligible for this scholarship a student must be enrolled full time as a JD student at an accredited law school. LL.M. students are not eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship must be used for tuition only or its equivalent and must be paid directly to the student's law school. Scholarships are expected to range between $5,000-$7,000.
