HPILS E-Board

2021-2022 Executive Board

President

Sonora Carroll

Sonora Carroll is a 2L with a passion for public service. Sonora received her dual undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Criminology while exploring the ways that society has failed racial and class minorities. Sonora has had the pleasure of working for non-profit organizations and as a clerk in Family Law Court and in the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office. Sonora is honored to be able to lead HPILS into another amazing and wonderful year.

Vice-President

Zachary Toland

Zack Toland is a third-year juris doctorate candidate at Howard University School of Law, Class of 2023. From an early age, Zack knew he wanted to pursue a career in public interest law, specifically in the fields of civil rights and criminal defense, which made the decision to apply to HUSL incredibly easy. He first became dedicated to public interest in high school, after first reading of Gideon v. Wainwright, the Supreme Court case that solidified the right to have an attorney appointed for you, even if you cannot afford one. Since beginning at Howard University School of Law, Zack has had the opportunity to intern at multiple nonprofit public interest organizations, including American Atheists, a group dedicated to upholding Thomas Jefferson's vision of a "wall of separation" between church and state guaranteed by the First Amendment; Environmental Defense Fund, a group dedicated to protecting the environment and advocating for social justice through an environmental lens; and most recently, the Federal Defender Services of Eastern Tennessee.

Secretary

Victoria Price-Husher

Victoria Price-Husher is a rising 2L. Victoria is dedicated to public service, and she is passionate about creating opportunities for other students committed to the public interest sector. Victoria believes that all students at HUSL should become social engineers in their prospective careers, and she wants to create opportunities to foster these discussions.

Treasurer

Deanna Williams

Deanna Williams is a rising 2L from Huntsville, Alabama. Deanna has been drawn to public interest work since she entered college. She is committed to serving unprivileged individuals and communities and plans to continue to do so through legal avenues after receiving her Juris doctorate. The Howard Public Interest Law Society is the perfect vehicle to commune with other Howard Law students that are dedicated to the same mission.

Community Service Co-Chair

Dominique Hamilton

Domonique Hamilton is a rising 3L. Domonique is committed to HPILS because she's committed to helping her community in an intentional way. As community service co-chair last year, she witnessed how important it is for people of color to give back to the community from which they came. Domonique was once a child who had to go to the food bank with her parents at times when they could not afford groceries, so to be able to raise a significant amount of money through fundraising for those families and children is all the payment. Knowing that she helped to feed, clothe, and provide necessities to those in need is enough for her!

Community Service Chair

Corenza R. Jean

Corenza is very excited to join the HPILS team as a Community Service Co-Chair. Throughout her educational career, Corenza has consistently sought ways to serve as an advocate to those in her community. Corenza has served in both the Judicial and Legislative branches of government and looks forward to collaborating with the HUSL community to serve the DC area.

Pro Bono Co-Chair

Drew Lewis

Drew Lewis is a rising 3L from Brooklyn, NY. Drew is strongly committed to HPILS/public interest work!

Pro Bono Co-Chair

Tamara Adams

Tamara Adams is a 2L with a strong interest in litigation. Tamara hopes to expand pro bono service at HUSL in all areas of the law. Her hope is to find pro bono projects that cater to all students. Ultimately, Tamara wants to enhance pro bono practices in not only the public sector but in the private sector as well. Tamara is excited to work with HPILS to enhance the legacy of social engineering.

Social Media Chair

Brittnie Reeves

Brittnie Reeves is a 2L apart of the Class of 2023 at Howard University School of Law. Before entering law school, Brittnie had the opportunity to work with survivors of human trafficking which exposed her to numerous cases of sexual assault, fair housing issues, employment discrimination and much more – ultimately fueling her desire to go to law school. Brittnie is committed to public interest work and more specifically the Howard Public Interest Law Society, because she's seen first-hand how important it is to have individuals who are passionate about human and civil rights, and how the lives of impacted individuals are positively changed as a result. Additionally, Brittnie believes the major way we can ensure the right people are in position to support public interest careers, is by providing the support necessary to increase financial and career opportunities for public interest law students, which HPILS has always been committed to doing!

Marketing Co-Chair

Nicholas Stubbs

Nicholas Stubbs is a rising 2L in the class of 2023. Nicholas is committed to HPILS because service is his passion. Nicholas lives for uplifting, encouraging, and helping others who are oppression by economic factors.

Marketing Co-Chair

Traneke Hamrick

Traneke Hamrick is currently a second-year law student at Howard University School of Law where she is the Co-Marketing Chair of Howard Public Interest Law Society, a Teaching Assistant in Contract Law, and a staff editor of the Howard Human & Civil Rights Law Review. Last summer Traneke was a summer associate at Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein and SPX Corporation in her hometown of Charlotte, NC. She is interested in litigation and transactional practice areas, but more importantly Traneke wants to ensure that she is gaining skills that will help her serve and advance her community. Traneke chose Howard Law because she is committed to being a social engineer and doing her part in moving society in the direction of justice and equity. In her free time, Traneke enjoys traveling and spending time with family.

Auction Coordinator

Bridget Warlea

Bridget is a rising 2L and is the Auction Co-Coordinator for HPILS. Bridget is Liberian-American and grew up in Philadelphia, PA for most of her life. She is passionate about social justice, advocacy, criminal law, civil rights and constitutional law. Bridget joined HPILS because she wanted to be connected with other HUSL students who are interested in public interest work.
