Approx larger size compared to a human hand
Physical Biometrics:
Wingspan: 17-18 inches / ~45 cm
Length: 12 in / 1 feet / 30 cm
Weight / Mass: ~ 150 grams
Distribution and Environment:
They primarily reside in plains / flatter grasslands, however their flight allows their distribution to vary.
Description:
Their diet largely consists of nectar from flowering plants, in their larval form their diet is carnivorous, particularly tarantula flesh. Their life often consists of digging out burrows before hunting down enormous tarantula's with their insane agility and speed before dragging their paralyzed husks back to said burrow. They then lay a single egg on the still alive but paralyzed tarantula, where their progeny will devour it.
Evolution / Anatomy:
The Death Sprinter's legs are extremely elongate and robust, similar to a larger form of the Tiger Beetle. This enables it to be an incredibly swift terrestrial runner for pursuing its arachnid victims. They are also incredibley agile in close range combat, so that they can effectively land their stings against usually much larger foes. They specialize in chasing their targets over expanses of flat ground, focusing and singling out spiders caught alone in such areas.
Their stinger's venom has become extremely potent, not in toxicity but in pain and the ability to seize up motor control. This way the venom doesn't kill, but rather paralyzes the victim leaving them alive but unable to move, due to its tarantula hosts being much m ore consistently larger now.
They are capable of sustained flight creating a very audible buzzing sound when doing so, which is usually what alerts Tarantulas ( most of them now possess audio vibration detecting trichobothria hairs ), which means they usually land at a significant distance away from its spotted victim before giving chase.
