Primary/Secondary Education Committee, led by Magi Davis and Suzie McMillian
This summer we marched, protested, sang, rallied, cried, laughed and planned. As teachers we have seen the consequences of these current unprecedented attacks against our brothers, sisters, children and those who may not hold the correct paper or have had their visas time out. We have seen the disruption this has caused in many lives.
This is why the education committee was formed. The education committee is dedicated to addressing current immigration issues and how they apply in the school setting and is working tirelessly to support educators, administrators, and students in understanding the complex challenges faced by immigrant communities. Our committee goals are to develop resources, host workshops, and collaborate with local organizations to ensure schools are equipped with accurate information and culturally responsive practices. By fostering awareness and empathy, the committee aims to create inclusive learning environments where all students—regardless of immigration status—feel safe, supported, and valued. We will also strive to help educators navigate legal concerns, advocate for students' rights, and build stronger connections between schools and immigrant families.
The education committee will be working through the Signal App on many projects. I am including the Signal QR code for those of you who want to join us.
Stop by Signal and say Hi.
