「ホスピタリティ産業」には様々な業種職種があります。たとえばホテル、レストラン、ブライダル、エアライン、スパ・サウナ、統合型リゾート（カジノを含む）などなどです。

　これらの産業（業界）は、どのような構造になっているのでしょうか。その歴史や発展はどうなのでしょうか。さらにその産業に含まれる企業についてはどうでしょうか。それらを深堀りすることは、ホスピタリティ産業を知るために有益です。

　なお、日本で「ホスピタリティ」というと、たとえば「おもてなし」「接客接遇」などを思いつく人が多いようです。　しかし日本以外の国ではほぼまったく異なります。少なくとも大学 university における「ホスピタリティ hospitality 」の研究教育といえば「経営 business administration 」「マネジメント management 」を意味します。少なくとも私（吉岡）がこれまで参加した国際学術カンファレンスや、他国の大学教員から話を聞くうえでは、そうでした。

　そこで吉岡ゼミでは上部に記したように「ホスピタリティ産業とその産業のマネジメント」をテーマに設定しました。ホスピタリティ産業そのものを調査研究することと、その産業における経営・マネジメントについて調査研究することを、ゼミ活動において実施します。所属するゼミ生は、いずれか、または両方を行うことになります。

The “hospitality industry” includes a wide variety of business occupations. For example, hotels, restaurants, bridal, airlines, spas and saunas, integrated resorts (including casinos), etc.

　How are these industries structured? What is their history and development? What about the companies in these industries? In-depth research into these questions is useful for understanding the hospitality industry.

　In Japan, the word “hospitality” often conjures up images of “omotenashi” (hospitality), for example. However, outside of Japan, the term is quite different. At least in universities, research and education on “hospitality” means “business administration” and “management". At least, that is what I (Yoshioka) have heard from the international academic conferences I have attended and from the university faculty members in other countries.

　Therefore, the theme of the Yoshioka Seminar is “the hospitality industry and management of the industry,” as described at the top. The seminar activities include research on the hospitality industry itself and research on management and administration in the industry. Students belonging to the seminar will be expected to do either or both.
